The corrosion path, and why it is misdiagnosed
Salt takes the heat rejection path first. A condenser is a fan pulling room air across aluminium fin stock all day, and the corrosion product packs the gaps between the fins. Airflow falls, the condenser can no longer dump heat, the compressor runs longer and longer to hold the same cabinet temperature, and on an August afternoon it stops holding at all.
Every one of those symptoms reads as a sealed-system failure on a work order. A technician in a hurry gets the gauges out and quotes accordingly. In a coastal house the first move is always to clean and inspect the condenser properly and re-measure, because that is where the fault usually is, and because opening a sealed system that did not need opening is an expensive mistake to undo.
Working in the historic core
An appliance in a hand-built enclosure has to be approached in the right order or something gets damaged.
The circuit goes off and the gas shutoff closes before anything moves, and on older installs the outlet behind the machine is frequently the least accessible thing in the room, which is exactly why the breaker gets used instead. Trim, filler strips and toe grilles come off next and the fasteners are kept together, because a missing screw at reassembly means the door will not sit square. The water line to an ice maker gets disconnected before the machine travels, never after. Then floor protection, then two people, then the appliance.
Where a fixed panel, a stone lip or a gas connection has to be dealt with before the failed part can be reached, that is stated in the written estimate up front. Sometimes the honest answer is that the access work costs more than the repair, and you should hear that before we start rather than halfway through.

Why does my condenser corrode faster than my neighbour two miles inland?
Salt aerosol concentration drops sharply with distance from the water. Two miles is a meaningful difference. Closer in, we expect corroded fin stock and seized fasteners as normal wear.
Can you do it in one visit if I am this far out?
