Ironside Appliance Repair Independent Viking Service · St. Johns County
Independent Viking Service

Viking built it to be repaired.
That is what we do.

Viking put commercial construction in a kitchen and started the residential professional range. Heavy doors. Heavy grates. Sealed burners with real output. Units from the 1990s still take parts. Ironside Appliance Repair is an independent shop that works on that equipment across Jacksonville and St. Johns County — and nothing else.

Equipment Note Rev 2026
Category
Residential professional. Viking created it: commercial-style construction sold for a house.
Build
Heavy gauge steel, welded frames, serviceable assemblies. Built to be repaired, not swapped.
Doors
Heavy. Hinges and springs are wear items on ovens this size. They are parts, not write-offs.
Burners
High-BTU sealed burners. Clicking with no light is normally the igniter or the cap, not the range.
Boards
Control boards fail after power events. About 68 thunderstorm days a year in this metro.
Parent
Composition Brands, following the transfer of Middleby's residential kitchen business to affiliates of 26North. Anything still saying otherwise is out of date.
Us
Independent. No manufacturer contract, no factory quota, no sales floor. $80 flat diagnostic, credited toward the repair.
A repair technician kneeling at a professional stainless dual-fuel range, one burner cap and grate lifted onto a towel beside him, testing the igniter.
On the job

The grate and cap come off before anything is quoted. Most burner faults are visible from this position, and none of them need a control board.

Scope

Eight machines, one manufacturer

Every page below lists the symptoms we get called for, what they usually turn out to be, and what the visit involves. Described from your side of the appliance. No invented error codes.

Repair pages
Appliance Category What the page covers
Professional ranges Ranges Sealed burners, spark modules, oven temperature drift and the door hinges that carry a 40-pound door. 30, 36, 48 and 60 inch ranges, gas and dual fuel.
Rangetops Rangetops Drop-in rangetops in 30, 36, 48 and 60 inch widths. Burner and valve work, simmer faults, griddle and grill module repair, and the counter cut-out problems nobody warned you about.
Wall ovens Wall ovens Single, double and combination wall ovens. Temperature drift, element and sensor faults, hinge and gasket wear, and control boards killed by power events.
Refrigeration Refrigeration Built-in and freestanding refrigeration. Sealed-system faults, ice maker fill valves, defrost and fan faults, condenser corrosion on the coast, and door hardware.
Dishwashers Dishwashers Panel-ready and stainless dishwashers. Drain and fill faults, heater and relay failures, blocked spray arms, door spring and cable wear, and boards after power events.
Ventilation hoods Ventilation Wall, island and professional hoods with internal, inline or remote blowers. Motor and speed control faults, lighting, baffle and duct problems, make-up air diagnosis.
Outdoor grills Outdoor Built-in and cart grills. Burner burn-through, igniter and valve failure, rotisserie motors, and the corrosion that coastal salt air puts into every fastener.
Wine cellars Wine storage Undercounter and full-height wine storage. Temperature stability, dual-zone faults, condenser airflow in tight cabinets, door seals, and sealed-system diagnosis.
Failure Patterns

What actually brings us out

Professional equipment does not fail randomly. On this manufacturer's kitchens the same short list accounts for most of the call sheet, and each item on it has a check that settles it before anything gets replaced. Tell us the symptom on the phone and the sequence below starts before we arrive.

68days

Thunderstorm days a year in this metro. Control boards fail in the week after the storm, not during it.

40miles

Road radius from Fruit Cove, St. Johns County. Far enough to be useful, tight enough to come back the same week if a part is wrong.

8machines

Appliance types, one manufacturer. Narrow on purpose: the same faults, often enough to recognise them on the phone.

The common faults, and what gets checked first
What you see What it usually is Checked first, and why
Burner clicks, will not light Spark taking an easier path than the gap it is meant to jump. The electrode and the burner cap, before any part is quoted. Boil-over residue bridges the ceramic and it cleans off.
Oven bakes cold or uneven Sensor drift, a tired element or ignition, or a door no longer sealing. The door and the gasket first. A dropped door loses heat at the top corner and looks exactly like a thermostat fault from the outside.
Oven door will not stay shut Settled hinge springs — or an appliance that is simply no longer level. A spirit level, before hinges are quoted. Floors move; a range set level years ago often is not now.
Appliance dead after a storm Control board damage from a power event, showing up days later. Supply and protection at the outlet, then the board. Fitting a board to a circuit that caused the failure buys the same fault twice.
Refrigerator drifting warm Heat rejection, far more often than a sealed-system fault. The condenser and its fan, cleaned and re-measured, before gauges come out. It has turned a lot of quoted sealed-system jobs into a coil clean.
Hood has lost its top speed A damper that no longer opens, or a blower fighting the duct run. The damper and the duct, before the motor. Remote and roof-mounted blowers fail at the damper more often than at the motor.

The Job

Four steps

  1. You call with the model number and the symptom. On a range the plate is usually on the frame behind the bottom drawer. That number decides what we load.

  2. We arrive inside the booked window and prove the fault. Not guess at it. $80, flat, whatever the appliance.

  3. You get the number in writing. Including when the honest answer is that the repair is not worth doing.

  4. You decide. Approve it and the $80 comes off the bill. 90 days on labor. 365 days on parts. Genuine OEM parts.

Customer Comments

What customers said afterwards

4.8 out of 5, across 47 customer reviews. Every one is a single visit, in the words of the person whose kitchen it happened in.

Read all 47

The oven in our range would climb past the set point and sit there. He checked the sensor resistance cold, found it reading low, and swapped it. Then he stayed to watch two full cycles before he called it done.

Harold N.

The lower arm turned but nothing on that rack came out clean. Its pump impeller had shed a vane. A new pump went in, and he ran the machine with the baskets pulled clear so I could watch water reach both arms.

Bartholomew K.

Ours ran constantly and the kitchen floor beside it was warm. He pulled the lower panel, showed me the condenser matted with dust and pet hair, cleaned it and then rechecked the running current before leaving.
